For a 1997 manual calls for Mercon ,

what is the consensus on what to use,

Dex III\Merc
or
Mercon V
or

My 2001 calls for "Mercon ATF". I did use Mercon V from Castrol (just to be on the safe side, it's recomended for Mercon or Mercon V aplications)...

Mercon is recommended, Mercon V is a better alternative. I generally don't mix the big 3 ( Dex, Merc, ATF+) different additives based on materials and assemblies.

Mercon 5 is the only way to go in these trans for best shift quality and anti shudder properties. Drain the rqe convertor and get it all out. 12 qts to refill. I paid $75 for 12 Castrol qts.at Autozone.
