4th Gen Roof Racks

Hi Everyone.

I recently overloaded my OEM 2008 Ford Explorer roof rack capacity (of 150lbs) and as expected, the plastic crossbars snapped.

Are there any aftermarket crossbars or setups people have used on the X to get somewhere around a 200lb+ capacity?

Yakima racks. Three 9' - 10' longboards, gear, wetsuits. 80mph on frwy with no problems yet. Never used the factory cross members. I was afraid they would break.

I have a Thule bike rack setup, and love it. Anything Thule or Yakima will be high-quality, pretty much bullet-proof, but they are expensive. If you want something that will hold up, and don't mind paying for it, take your pick.

But if you just want something to replace what you had (light duty), try some of the online salvage yards, '06-'10 Explorer or Mountaineer.
