I recently built a platform rack for my 4th gen and just wanted to share. Main cross beams are 80/20 extruded aluminum. I designed and machined the mounts to currently attach to the factory rails. I may remove the factory rails in the future and make custom mounts to bolt the rack directly to the roof and lower it some. I was originally going to just install 6 crossbars between the factory rails, but by mounting the rails above the rails i was able to make the rack 48.5" wide by 60.25" long. The front and rear rails are floating and attached to the rest with the aluminum side rails.

Just got back from a 900 mile round trip and the rack worked fantastic. Plan on adding a awning to it in the near future.

Looks awesome. Great looking ex, too. Love those wheels

A bit late in the post, I am looking to build a similar platform, with Extrusions. How's your holding up after all this time? Also, do you have a picture of the mounts you designed? Trying to get different ideas. Thanks!
