my'99 ranger will not lock in...the front axle turns but the front wheels will not lock in...help

If you place the vehicle in the air so both sets of tires are off the ground and put it into 4wd, will the front & rear tires move?

front driveshaft spinning?

are these hubs vacuum operated? you could have a bad check valve or bad line. is this a push button shifter or a lever? is there a indicator light on for 4x4?

indicater light says on...and it is the dial selector..and yes is does run off vac...you think that could be it??

either that or both hubs went bad at the same time. just a guess though, I'd try to check the vacuum where it enters the hub or axle

if the vac is ok...both hubs need to be replaced?? thanks for the help!!!

are you getting any grinding noice ? I just replaced my hubs had the same problem $900 not cheep but I wont get stuck now

If the hubs are vacuum operated, I have seen the o-rings in the hub dry out and cause vacuum leaks.

try to just clean them up first, I would not think that they would both go at the same time, but if you do replace them I would go to manual locks a lot more reliable prolly cheaper too, just leave them locked all winter

search for AVM locking hub and lose the PVH. This will allow you to manually lock the axle with out the worry of problems with vac leaks and all. Will save a lot of hassle and heart ache

Get the AVM's mine work great all the time and much cheaper than the stealership. They install in a snap, literally!

did you get your 4x4 working? i would look at the vac hubs first, and do the ful time lock mod at the same time. its stock on the 03+
