4wd help

i have a 98 mountaineer 5.0 the switch on the dash says 2wd, auto and 4 low but it feels like its in awd when the switch is in 2wd and i cant find a 2wd 5.0 anywhere have only had the truck a few weeks and not sure whats going on

someone may have just swapped in a bezel from a 4wd truck, if your 5.0 from factory you either have awd or 2wd. There are after market do it yourself options for 4wd. Easy way to tell is crawl under look at the t-case and if there is just the tcase with no shift motor on it then your awd which you probably are.

Yeah Glen4x4 is right, someone must have put a bezel from a V6 4wd in it, the 5.0 was only available in 2wd and awd. The awd model doesn't have a 4x4 switch, it's awd all the time.

thats what i thought the part that confused me was that the switch is plugged in

Yeah the AWD's have the wiring harness for it. Mine has the plug behind it for the switch too. Also some AWD's have an air suspension that uses a switch in that same spot. It has two positions, Normal Ride and Offroad. Yours may or may not have it.

thanks guys i got under there yesterday and looked it is awd looks like im gonna have to do some converting oh well should be fun
