4wd lights flashing 6 times on 98', can't find speed sensor

Hi there ,iv'e done all the searches, however i can't seem to find any pics of these mysterious speed sensors. The lights are flashing, the windows work, and the switch even works, but the lgiths don't after the flashing begins. it doens't always happen, if i trun the car off and on, it stops and doensn't always start back.

If anyone has pics if these speed sensors or good directions, it would really help me out, we're expecting a litle snow storm tomorrow, and I'd love to have it all sorted out.

Check the fluid level, time to change it anyway. Mine was low and 4WD light was flashing. Fount transfer case was almost empty from leaking rear seal. New fluid and disconnect battery to reset computer. Unlike earlier years, these don't have the strong magnetic sensors that pick up a lot of trash. Follow the wires from the shift motor connector to the sensors.

any0ne else? I haven't checked the fluid, i will, well if i can find it. but i had it changed less than a year ago, and i've driven, MAYBE 8K miles.

Well ive' pull and cleaned the rear diff sensor and the sensor just below the rear output shaft, i still can't seem to find any other speed sensor and there must be one for the front shaft, and as a matter of fact, i seem to think that's wher teh problem is.

You have the same problem that I have ( Explorer 97 XLT). I got a code P01836 which mean that I have intermittent problem with the front shaft speed sensor..
This sensor is very hard to locate.. you must remove the shift motor to have access to this sensor.. and then you will see the sensor a few inches above the motor..
I will try to find a picture of a Tcase showing the shift motor and a front shaft speed sensor and then I will post..

hey! i found the sensor, i cna't believe i didn't see it eariler, but iw as under that with a headlamp type and light and finally found it, i pulled it, cleaned it, and the lights went away for about a day.

Can we order this sensor? , i didn't seem to find any 'end' to it, it just seems to go into the larger plug under there? I hope we can, haivng said that, i sort of like having 2wd, but i figure the brown wire mod is probally a better way to get that....
