Hello All,
I am working on daughters and future son-in-law's 98 eddie bauer v6 explorer. It has some issues. The more I look, the more I am about to decide it must be awd and the "magic" all occurs in the transfer case. I find no vacuuum lines to the front wheels and no manual hub locks. They are thinking 4wd doesn't work but I am not so sure. What is best way to confirm it is actually operational (save gettin deep in mud and findin out it dont)LOL

Welcome to the forum, If its V6 then its either 2wd or automatic 4X4, there is a switch on the dash for 4X4, V8's were 2wd and AWD. The easiest way to see if the 4X4 works is turn the switch to 4high and drive the vehicle a foot or so turning the wheel and see if the front end is binding, just of course don't do it anymore or you'll break something.

I would say go to a dirt road floor it in 2wd then do it in 4wd should pull much harder in 4wd and just spin in 2wd
