Howdy everyone. I have a 94 x limited & am having a 4wd problem. Basically, my 4wd works just fine in low range but doesn't engage in 4wdhi. The light next to the switch on the dash goes red when its pressed for 4wdhi, but the "4x4" light on the dash under the instrument cluster doesn't light up.... the 4wdlow works fine, it engages, both lights turn on and i get movement front/back.

What exactly could the cause of the 4wdhi problem be? I can hear the click from the 4wd module when i press the 4wdhi button, but I don't get any 4wd...

On a side note, I broke down in rural MO this past weekend, after my truck basically stopped accelerating, stumbled, and belched out horrible black smoke from the tailpipe. the cause - a bad MAF. Go figure. It had apparently been fouled for a while and the engine just started running so rich on gas that i basically suffocated it....

any help appreciated,
pabs

could be the plug going into the T case... try and clean it.

It could be moisture in the connector or motor on the T-case. I was having problems with mine shifting into 4wd at all, sometimes it would and sometimes it woulden't. I swaped out my electric T-case for a manual one so I woulden't have to worry about electronics failing when I need them most. There is a lot of posts regarding this problem, try doing a search for transfer case problems, somewhere there is a description of how to clean the contacts on the motor and wire harness. Oh yeah, my MAF did the same thing;) .
If you need any transfer case parts let my know, I have a good motor that I didn't end up using and my original T-case is fine except for the motor.
