When 4wd is engaged, when i am turning i hear loud clanking noises, and i get the feeling that something is slipping..., it only comes from the front right tire. It definately feels like something is wrong, and that i am breaking my car.

From reading the other posts, i am getting the impression that it is a problem with the automatic hubs.., but since it is only coming from that one tire, should i replace the hubs with manuals, or should i just get the 1 automatic hub replaced..

I don't know if you know this but you're not suppose to use 4WD on dry pavement. If you were then this noise would be your drivetrain winding up when you're turning, then letting lose. This is bad for your car. If you were driving on dirt or some other loose surface you would not notice this as much, but there still is some noise involved, especially in sharp turns. Either way the automatic hubs are notorious for going bad so that could be the noise also. I would replace them with manuals instead of getting the one auto replaces. You'll be able to get both manuals for the price of one auto and it will be way more reliable and last much longer.

I would not even recommend using the 4WD system that the 94 and older has on wet (rained on) pavement or on dry dirt roads. Use in conditons where you actually need it to prevent getting stuck. if you use it on dry or on surfaces that doo not allow a lot of slippage, you run the risk of breaking front axle parts and it will most definatly wear your tires out fatser if you always operate in 4WD

The system in the 95 and newer has a 4WD auto setting which is safe to run on any surface.
