- 98 Mercury Mountaineer
Hi, I am new here so I apologize if this is not in the right place. I am looking for some help determining if my 4wd is locked or not. I have a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer 4.0L. I have done a little research online but I can not find enough information so I am hoping someone here can help me. When I have the front end jacked up, in neutral, and in "Auto" mode and the rear wheels on the ground, I can spin my passenger wheel and the axle shaft and the front driveshaft also spin, Same goes for the driver front tire however the driver side is fairly difficult to spin compared to the passenger, is this normal? When I switch it over to 4x4hi and try spinning a front tire, they both spin. So I am assuming it locks into 4wd no problem. I am mainly concerned if it is disengaging properly? Also I was wondering if it was normal that the front driver tire is hard to spin compared to the passenger? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You
