I have a '97 Explorer 4x4 with 111,000 miles. I was on the interstate today and noticed a loud buzzing, winding...wizzing (for lack of a better word) sound that would occur, then go away once I slowed down. a little further down the road, it starts again, i slow down, it stops. Repeat until I decide to make a u-turn and take a backroad home. It only occurred while i was driving at speeds of 50 mph or higher. When I got home I put it in 4wd, thinkin that sound was it trying to kick into 4wd. I had no problems in 4 Low, but while in 4 High, the same sound occurred. I asked a friend of mine who knows alot more about cars than I do said its the 4wd sensor. Anyone know if that could be the issue or if its something else?

p.s. there were no lights indicating 4wd on my dash when all this occurred either, if that helps
