Hi,

when i use my 4wd on my 92 xlt I get a loud whining noise? Feels like there is a lot of drag. On dry pavement it feels like the truck jumps. occasionaly i can hear the wheel skid. Is this normal with explorers?

When I use my moms sezuki I can't even tell its in 4wd.

I'm not sure what the "normal" noise should be for a 92, but I'm sure that you shouldn't be using 4wd on dry pavement. On the part time 4wd, it is normal to have the jumps and skids on dry pavement because the front and rear axles are trying to turn at different speeds (when turning the truck) but they can't, so something has to slip or give.

I would suggest checking the front differential to make sure it isn't low. That might cause a whining noise.

explorer 4x4 on dry pavement is BAD... the truck will jump and make wierd noises... it wasnt designed to be used on dry pavement... this can destroy u-joints or pretty much any part of the driveline.... my auto hubs used to whine if i drove on the street and didnt unlock them after use....

Waaaaahhhhh! Why don't I have 4WD on my X?

There, that was my 4WD whine. Enjoy.
