front driver side noise while in 4wd while turning

only happens when in 4wd. its a loud noise like something rubbing (sounds like the front drive shaft possibly)

any input is helpful

I think your going to have to give us a little bit more input on what it sounds like. Does it only do it when turning or all the time. Are you on dry ground or a slippy environment? does it do it in both 4hi and 4lo?

what have you checked so far?
 






You mean while in 4HI/4LO ?
in that case it's normal because the center differential is locked. the effect is often referred to as "crow hopping". You should not use these modes on dry (non-slippery) pavement.

If the noise is also coming when in 4 AUTO then it's more of a problem but I do admit it happens on mine occasionally. I believe there has been a TSB for it, something along the lines of "binding sensation when tight maneuvers"... and it is caused by the rear diff.

WOW, thank you for answering (and asking) this question. I just noticed this exact same thing on my '03 4.0L, only in 4HI, and was starting to worry about it. Thanks for putting my mind at ease guys.
