I will be starting the 4x4 convertions on my 1992 Mazda Navajo tomorrow 6-29-00. There are three steps that I will go through to install the 4x4 system on my 2wd. Each step is less than a days work and I will be able to Drive the Navajo after each step.

Step#1: Install t-case (This is my plan for tomorrow)

Step#2: Install front axle

Step#3: Install new floor shifter

It is being done in this order for reasons of complications durning the fitting of the new parts.

For the people interested in doing the convertion I will be taking picktures and I will calulate the cost of the overall convertion.

Wish me luck!!!!

Kris; are you keeping it stock? Where did you get the donor parts? I imagine, if the brakets are the same size (TTB), it should be a bolt-in affair. Good Luck!

pics so far...

I have done most of the install I am now just waiting on a second hand to lift the t-case in the truck so here are some pics for ya'll you check out.

Kris,
If you pull this off, as a fellow Texan I'd sure like to meet you and see you try it out in Ouray with us for Labor Day...

As you all knew I would... my 4x4 convertion got stumped already. It just so happens my t-case desided to not have the right spline to mate with my transmission. I will be working on a solution to the problem and continue with the convertion. I put my Navajo back to the 2wd condition.

I found the solution in the form of $300. I am going to use my factory trans but... The output shaft for the trans has to be replaced. This calls for the trans to be taken apart.
Since I have some of the best connections in my home town I can get the output shaft and have it installed for $300.

Since I am so far along in the convertion process I have desided not to scrap the idea. I do not think the convertion is cost effective and would not etempt it with out good parts supply and cost effective ways to get them. I am doing most of the labor myself and it is not easy work.

I recomend no attemting it un less you are stuborn like me.

BTW: The output shaft is goign to be installed by a Ford Transmission tech with 7 year of experince...

Your Not going to belive this Today I noticed a 91-92 EB at the car audio place right behind my house. It cought my eye because it was lifted 6"... Second the owner of the car was not there but here is the kicker I got a little info out of the installer. The owner did the 4x4 convertion....

The owner is going to be up there later and I am going to go by talk to him and check his truck out...

I am quite interested in busting out a 4xConversion on my ride....are you going to provide a complete install write-up? Good luck on finishing the job....

No I am just putting in a TTB.
