4x4 doesn't engage

I have a '92 XL and the 4x4 or lo range engage button doesn't light up...I can't tell if 4x4 is working??? I not too familiar with these trucks. This is my first Ford SUV I've ever owned.

There are some tests to run on the 4x4 controller unit. Also, listen for a clicking noise from the rear driver side ( the unit is in the compartment with the jack and rear washer fluid tank ).

Do a search on the board and you'll find how to test the unit. ( you'll be looking for some info on a blinking or solid led on the unit )

Funny that someone would mention this. We had some more snow last night and my wife went out during the day, when she arrived back home she said that the 4 wheel drive was not working. I went out later and sure enough it did not seem to be engaging and the indicator lights would not come on. I gave the switch a little rap with my finger and it the indicator light came on. I pulled the dash cover away enough to make sure the plug was properly connected which it seemed to be. It is still working but may be a flakey switch. This may help.
