Solved 4x4 High Low Light Keeps Blinking....

Prefix for threads that contain problems that have been resolved, and there is an answer within the thread.
I just had the 4wd lights blinking when i started up my 98 explorer sport this morning they blinked at startup then every couple of minutes they would blink 6 times. I tried to put it in 4wd and it wouldnt engage. I came inside and read this thread then went out and disconected the battery for ten minutes and now the blinking went away and I put it in 4wd high and it went into gear and no more blinking lights. what should I look for down the road is this a sign of something ? Should I also change the relays like the other posters and whick one can someone direct me to a pick of the relays and which I should change ? Thank you in advance for any insight

OK the blinking lights came back that didnt take long any ideas ? I have been searching on here and a lot of people are finding that this could be the transfer case shift motor

turned out it was the gem in my explorer

lights came back i installed a used gem and it fixed my problem for a week then it came back. any ideas ?

I had the flashing 4WD high/low light, 4WD would not engage. Fix it by disconnecting the negitive battery terminal let the computer reset. Reconnected it let the idle relearn. Put it in neutral click click low 4wd engaged right away.

I also had the flashing 4x4 lights along with power window gremlins in my 96 exp 4x4 xlt 4.0 ohv. After disconnecting the negitive battery cable several times to no avail. Spent hours checking for broken wires, changing fuses and the 3 relays, I found a used GEM on ebay. It had matching numbers with mine so I thought I would gamble $35.00 and installed it and "low and behold" that was it. It's been over a month and no issues "cross my fingers" I want to thank all those who posted tips on this forum as I never would have found it on my own. You guys are great!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to each and every one of you. Frank
