4x4 light is on and flickering

I have the manual shifting transfer case and it has been working fine. This last weekend I was wheelin on the sand down in Rocky Point and ever since the 4x4 light stays on when I am at low speed and flickers when I am accelerating then turns off when I am on the freeway.
It is not in 4 wheel drive but why would the light still be on?
I have tried backing up for a bit, the hubs are both dissengaged but it still comes on.

Any word would be appreciated


UPDATE:
I was messing with the shifter and now I can shift it in and out of 4x4 low without putting the trans in neutral or park. What the heck is going on?
I guess next time I am wheelin I will hear a large explostion and my transfer case will be crawlin around behind the truck.

i had this problem

mine was a fuse. I think, at leaset im pretty sure. I had a stereo problem at the same time so i wouldnt know. BUt im pretty sutre it was a fuse preblem (a 15amp) sorry this aint much help but its all i can offer try it

Is yours a manual shifting transfer case or electric?
Mine is manual so I do not think there is anything electical needed to shift it in and out of 4x4.
