Hello, the 4x4 low isnt lighting up or engaging. I disconnected the BWM(brown wire mode) thinking that it messed it up but it still doesnt work. (I put the X in nuetral wih foot on brake) The 4x4 high lights up on the dash and works. Just the 4x4 low? Any suggestions or tips would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance jeremy

No worries. Im gonna try one more thing this saturday. I read awhile back when I first got my X and joined the forum, that some wires rub against the plastic oil drip piece(don't know proper name for it) its the piece of plastic that catches the oil when you replace the oil filter. But i read that the wires by it are ones that control the 4x4 and that sometimes they could rub and cut the wires. Don't know how true it is, but at this point im gonna try anything.

Come to think of it, I was having a problem similar to yours: my 4x4 light on the dash was flashing, I couldn't put the truck into 4x4 High, when I put it into 4x4 low the light on the dash would light up and the LED on the button would light up, but the 4x4 wasn't working. It turned out to be a bad ground on the transfer case. Just a thought.
checked the wires, there good. So im back to no idea why my 4x4 low doesnt work or light up. Half tempted to order a 4x4 module from the auto part store plug it in to see if thats the problem if not return it, if it is keep. Do you think it could be something with the transfer case?

Better be careful with ordering a module. I don't think they will take it back since it's an electrical part. If you do decide to replace the module, make sure you disconnect the battery before you unplug the old one and keep it disconnected when you plug in the new one.
Before you go throwing parts at it, you might want to get the codes read. That way you will know what it is. You have to get the codes read at a place that can read Ford specific codes. The local parts places won't be able to do it.
thanks for the tips bigrondo. I was gonna try messing with the transfer case motor. See if the linkage got hung up or that. Buddy said to start there and see if its working then move on to the module. So when I get some time im gonna lift the X and see if its the transfer case motor. Do you think the linkage got hung up since the 4x4 low and 4x4 high wasnt used since the winter? also I had the BWM on the X since the spring.

dont mean to butt in but sounds very close to what just happened to me in my 03 ex. I replaced the Module 210.00 checked all my connections, also disconnected the battery everything finally i grew some B@lls and cut the shift control module and took it inside and rebuilt it. Works quicker than ever now so If I were you I would try that next Its easy and there are alot of threads on here for later model ex's but its the same. OH and by the way mine had hardly no wear inside the shift control module but the lube was really hard and I refilled with some ford lube from the parts store. 300 dollar part but rebuilt cost me about 1 dollar. lol good luck.
