I've got a lot of noise (rattle kind of) when I am in 4x4, checked axles and drives shaft seem to be tight just had new rotors installed and front wheel service. also does not seem to want disengage easily,( have to backup 30 feet or so. It is a 93 sport auto.
Any help for an old guy?

Can you give greater detail in what isn't disengaging (HUBS or 4x4 Light)? Where does the rattle appear to come from? Does it occur all the time, going straight, turning etc.. The more details the better we can help diagnose your Problem. Tight Axle shafts don't necessarily mean their ok. U-joints only last 100K miles (after which the seals dry out and allow moisture to enter and rust out the needle bearings). As such axles shafts should be tight and articulate smoothly, whereas worn U-joints will make the shafts tight, but articulate very roughly. Loose U-joints indicate extreme wear and should be replaced asap as they could easily fail..
