4x4 not switching off in auto position

'99 XLT
I have a 99 XLT 4x4. My auto switch on the dashboard will not switch back to 2wd. I have replaced the tires and they have been on for 2 days now. Please help!!!
 






Are the tires the same size all the way around? And are you saying that the dial its self will not turn to point in the Auto position?
