I have a 1998 Ford Ranger w/4X4.
Last week it got down to -25 and the battery went dead over night. That same night I also lost the 4X4. It shows you are in 4X4 drive but it is not functing. The front drive axle engages the front differential but no power is getting to the front wheels. A friend did a spin test and said that the front wheels spin free of each other. What is the most likley cause of the 4X4 fauiler? Today (12-21-2009) the Front differentail oil was drained and metal flakes were found in it. What would be the weak link in the system?
