I need some advice on my 4X4 problem. I have electric shift. We put it up on jacks to test. We removed the shift motor and took it apart following some of the excellent threads from this site. Everything in the shift motor was in excellent shape. I activated the motor when it was not bolted to the T-Case, and it turned easily, so I don't think the problem is with the shift motor. One notable observation I had was that there was a small amount of metal on the speed sensor that plugs into the T-Case. Must be some gears grinding.
When I attempt to engage 4H, I hear an unusual sound (kind of a labored whirring sound) from the transfer case. The front drive shaft turns while this sound happens, but eventually quits turning (within 15 - 30 seconds). It doesn't appear to fully engage. The sound in the transfer case seems to be coming from the area near where the rear drive shaft enters the T-case.
I'd appreciate any thoughts on this problem.
