I know there is a lot out there on this but I need some help, as the problem seems different from others that I am reading about. Here is some info
95 explorer with 4x4.
Buddy said he threw the truck in 4x4 and this was the first time in a long time that he did this. I think he might have put it in low because thats where it ended up being stuck when I got to tinkering with the truck. He said it wouldnt go over 10mph and sounded funny. (typical 4x4 low). So I assumed it was the shift motor since I figured it hadn't been put in 4x4 every month like it should have to keep everything fresh. I changed the motor, swapped the pins over to the harness as instructed.
After swapping the new motor in, the lights on the dash were still blinking 6 times and no movement of motor. So I unplugged the battery. This stopped the lights from blinking, and they haven't come back on yet, but the motor is still not moving. I have not heard of this happening. I have heard that the problem goes away after the battery disconnect, but then comes back later. Which I expect to happen after he drives more. But when he shifts the knob over between 2 and 4, the dash lights change accordingly, but they shift motor does not spin.
I know there are other sensors that can go bad, but shouldnt there be some codes or flashing if the motor is not shifting the gears in the case? Essentially everything says it is working fine, but we know it is not because it is not physically going between 2 and 4.
I appreciate any suggestions. Could the relays be the cause, while not setting off any codes? He said they checked all fuses related to 4x4 with none being blown.
