4x4 problems.

Hi just my first explorer 1999 with 55000 mls on it there is a problem with the 4x4 low its stuck in it took the motor out a set it to 2 wheel drive swith the dash switch to 2 wheel drive and re-connect the batt and it goes sraight back into 4 low anybody help ?????????????
