what is the max safe speed in 4x4 low ?
Basically the speed where the engine is going to blow itself up (redline). I believe my owners manual says 45 mph, but that seems awful fast to maintain for any length of time. Most of the time, I stay 25 or below in 4L

Depends on what you mean safe for. Drivetrain in 4H can handle just about any speed. However, most of the time, if you "need" 4H, then the road conditions won't support those high speeds. 4H on these is supposed to only be used on "ice, snow, mud, sand" or other low traction conditions. Basically, you need to drive to the conditions.

As for the lights, I've seen that condition described many times, but I don't recall what the resolution (if any) was. Try running that question through the site's search engine.

I've done over 70mph before with part time 4wd's in slick conditions. The pavement needs to have ice on it in my opinion to not bind your 4wd up. I don't use 4wd in wet so I don't know much about high speeds in rainy conditions but in snow as fast as you can safely go is how fast the 4wd can handle.

Red-line in OD. IIRC, it's right around 62mph depending on your tire size and axle gearing.
2nd question what is the max safe speed 4x4 hi ?
Depends on the operating conditions. But there's no issue with the drivetrain at any speed. The driveline components are all rated to safely handle the vehicle's maximum speed. Whether or not it's safe to operate the vehicle at that speed is open to interpretation. Per the owner's manual, 4high should only be engaged at speeds below 55mph, but in reality, it makes no difference.

Search and you'll find TONS of reading on the topic. :)
