I can hear spinning from the front diff, when I put her into 4hi, put the wheels never lock up.. NO 4low period.
I never notice before, But I hear clicking beind the dash when I try to put the truck into 4low. I was told this from a bad relay which could effect the shift motor from engaging the t-case fully into any gear. Has anybody had this probelm let me know before I go and get another part I dont need.
thanks

Ahh 96 doesn't have 4HI.. It only has 2WD, 4Auto, 4Low.. Most times its the shift motor that is at fault. Do a search and you'll find some good results.

does it always click behind the dash when you put it into 4x4?

I got a 96x......the only thing I notice is when I shift into or out of 4low, then there is a deffenate shifting noise comming from the trans case.

I never noticed a clicking noise comming from the dash

The Torque On Demand (TOD) relay is a solid state unit that has no moving parts. There is locking collar that engages the passenger side axle shaft when you switch to 4 high. The clicking you hear is the vacuum solenoid which engages it. The TOD relay is a solid-state unit and it doesn't make a sound when it engages.

The clicking to 4 low is the relay engaging the shift motor in the transfer case.

Just to double-check, to shift to 4 low, you click the knob over with the truck in neutral, foot on the brakes, and speed under 3mph, right?

Have to ask....
