I have a 2001. If I put the dash switch to 4x4 I get a series of clicking noises at the 4X4 control Module under the passenger dash. I figured my Shift Motor at the transmission was bad, so I replaced it with a new one. Same problem. The Shift motor gets power, sort of like a motor trying to spin up. But the unit does not turn the slot that is supposed to turn the transmission to 4x4. This happens with the new Shift Motor, and the old Shift motor. I can manually engage the 4x4 system with a wrench while the Shift Motor is removed. When I do this the Truck is in 4X4.

Any ideas?

Yep. It is the module. It still clicks when it is bad. replace and have fun...

Your very certain? If I buy the Control Module, it is not returnable. I think this is the correct part. Let me know if not. 2001 Sport Trac. Part number: 1L5Z-7E453-AC

Thank you!

Ok I went to www.mysporttrac.com and searched it there for you. I am a long time member and one time owner of the site. We replaced my friends (George C on the site) module when he had the same problem. Also thats the fix everyone has done. ALSO maybe before that go to radio shack or any electonics or auto parts store and get electrical contact cleaner and spray the modules connectors and see if it is just a little coroded in there. Good luck man....
