What would be a good cam to help utilize the 5.0's power like the stangs. The biggest difference between the engines I believe. Good streetability, better than stock. Part #'s, Specs.?

Bump

C'mon Motorheads. Any good ideas on lift and duration?

i dont know anything but the tech guys at summit have helped me with other stuff before and i grilled them about cams for my 318 dodge PU. Edlebrock webpage has dyno results with their different packages and i think that they give lift and duration numbers on the site and the differences for applications.

You do know that the 302 is a pushrod engine and changing the cam is not exactly an easy job, right? I would say save you time and money.

98 AWD 5.0

I have thought about the same swap but don't know what tipe of head to go with. Some of the comparos indicate that the Edelbrock systems are the best over all, for a true street application witch is the only truck thing i think you can do, thats the way I'm going. With some ting like an A303 motorsport cam.

Isn't the 303 what most stangs run with?

From what I understand it isn't . The A303 is a performance upgrade from stock if I'm correct. The Bi#%h is nobody has applications for 5.0 from 96 up, When they started puttin mod motors. Seems like they gust stopped with the hipo goodies. So what I'm trying to do is fit old numbers and see if they work. Try and find a trottle body for a 97 or 98, or Maf, you'll know what I mean. I also have to brothers that are techs at ford and i still have a hard time figuring **** out. I would like to find something that tells me exactly what my truck haslike -Maf size , injecter size, valve sizes on the GT40P heads,Header manufactures for the same heads, and a number of other thing but don't know where to go.

keep searchin

drnaline,
you areSOL on headers, unless you can find some laying around in a warehouse. Try checking some sppedshops, especially ford racing and one who deal with ford motorsports, SVO, etc. I found a shop that is big into ford and he had some connections. Ended up gettin gmy pair from Michigan somewhere. The guy had three sets and had to be talked into letting one go. I thought the MAF was 62 or 65 MM. i don't think it is worth it to change unless you are doing some big internal mods.

DUDE, JUST SAW A PAIR OF GT40P HEADS AND HEADERS FOR SALE ON STANGNET - POWER ADDERS DON'T KNOW IF THEY WILL FIT ON AN XPLODER THOUGH EVEN IF THEY FIT THE HEAD. WORTH A SHOT TO SEE IF HE'LL SEPARATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Headers

No they won't work. It's a car hearder and not even close to fitting. I think I found a set from Steeda. They had an application for both of ours. I was also planning to just clean up my MAF and then see if I could get it recalibrated.

The good thing about these V8's is they are backwards compatible. you can modify them heavly with mustang parts, BUT the drawback is they are for the a light weight car and not for a heavy truck, so most of the power that you create with the mods is lost in that nasty AWD drivetrain. since the overall dimensions of the 302 block and mounting points hasnt changed in the past 30+ years they made it, your better off just building one from scratch and replacing the whole engine. This way you can blueprint it and know you will have some real horses.

Just replacing the cam alone wont do you any noticable good, I have tried it long ago with my old LTD wagon. In order for a Cam to make any improvements you must also work the valves, like the size of the valve, the angles of the seats and of course how far into the cylinder the valve goes in, and the spring height and tension. If your going to do a cam dont just grab a cam and hope it works you will waste your time and money. You might want to look for a place that does high performance machining and see what they have to say about it.

Just looking out for you drnaline!

I believe the cam you were thinking of was actually a E 303. And I aggree the it won't do much on it's own Check out this page for help with Mustang performance parts. They even have a buy/sell/trade area. http://www.corral.net/

www.online-racer.com is telling me that a cam swap will work just fine. I'm going to continue to weigh ideas and opinions. Surely understandable that max benefits would incl. additional engine work
