5.0 engine replacement, need help

I just finished installing a rebuilt 5.0 into my 1998 Eddie Bauer. I have two issues. First, it is not starting, just turns. It is getting spark, but what I am wondering is whether the cam timing is correct. Is there a certain way that the cam sensor (distributor) needs to be installed in reference to TDC?
Second issue a leak in the actual oil pan that I noticed after getting everything together and filling it with oil. The pan actually has a crack in the bottom near the front of the engine. Any ideas for repairing this short of pulling the engine back out. Was going to try one of the metal repair things like JB Weld.

You do need a special alignment tool for the camshaft. Here is a rough diagram I made/used when I swapped my cam. I do believe the '98 sensor is slightly different though.

The syncronizer (distributor) has to set at TDC #1. And you will need a special tool tool to align it.

Which oil pan? Steel or aluminum? I took what I thought was a perfectly good aluminum pan and did the exact same thing as you. Filled it with oil only to find a leak from a crack in the corner of the pan. I hadn't seen it when I put the pan together...so it's possible I did it installing the engine. Who knows. All I know is I had to pull it back up and put the steel pan on. Any competent repair will probably require removing the pan.
