Hi! Yesterday as i drove back to home from work i noticed RPM would not drop under 2000 easily and as i finally got to park my car, switched to neutral and then to reverse i noticed the rpm shoot up to 5000+, parking was like taming wild horse.

Quickly after this i shut down the car as i somehow managed to park my car in its spot and i could smell same smell as you would get from burnt clutch.

Now, the weather conditions here have been really cold (-23) degrees Celsius = -9.4 degrees Fahrenheit and i drove around 20 miles home from work in highway, perhaps IAC or something froze completely to cause this?

After the car as been resting for a good while, the idle RPM does not shoot up, but after driving while it does.

Any good ideas? Thanks in advance.

Ice in the throttle body or IAC?

Yep...betcha anything the cold/frozen condensation is causing the IAC or throttle plate to stick. Had a similar occurence a couple yrs ago. I cleaned the grime off where the throttle body/ throttle plate meet and replaced the IAC. Problem went away for the rest of that winter. But, currently experiencing some cold start idle problems of my own here in the sub-zero frozen tundra of Minnesota right now. I'll be checking these two items again once the weather moderates.

P.S.

Here in New Orleans we decided to have winter this Friday-Sunday.

We gonna get down to 29 Deg...

Crap, I'm gonna die!!!!

Hang in there big guy...life doesn't end at 29 Deg.! We've been having lows of below zero most all week...with windchills of -20 F range. Week and a half ago, we had actual low temps of -20 Deg. a couple of days. Now, that's fun! Yeah, it puts a little crimp in your activities...but, today the sun is out, it's about +5 Deg with a light breeze. Windchill is probably only around -10 Deg. Think I might go down to the local Pick-n-Pull to get some parts...lol!

XL Trunner

I hear what you saying.

I'll make it. Plenty of Adult AntiFreeze to kill the chill.

I think I would fail the Eskimo 101 Class so I'm not going to even enroll.
