4x4 low switch error.

Could someone explain how/what the hell??

I searched the site and found someone else had the problem and never got an answer.

only code in memory?

the 4x4 low switch would be the neautral safety circuit (or clutch circuit on manual truck)
this is the switch wire that says "okay electric shift motor you can now shift into low range because the clutch pedal is depressed/ the truck is in N"

I suspect something fishy with your NSS wire

When you went 4406 did you wire up the dash indicators?
To the Gem module?

the Gem talks to the PCM and your scanner also has a wire to talk to the GEM
The code may actually be coming from the GEM module via PBD-II computer?

just thinking out loud here. I am curious how you wired up your 4x4 indicators if you did

I only hooked up the 4hi light.. so the 4hi light is the only light that comes on even if i'm in 4lo.. aka. i only ran a single ground from the tcase to the wires behind the radio. But i did that months ago and have used 4wd many times since then.. this was so random.. i did absolutly nothing different than i normaly do.. only thing i did was spray off under the hood and under the truck good. then drove to work the following day. when it came on. Washing my truck is an often occurance as well. I hooked up my 4hi light according to mountaineergreen

Why not hook up the 4 low light also?

This is odd for sure...... we'll do some more research
my best guess is your GEM is aware that you are shifting into 4x4 somehow and the code is coming from the GEM to the PCM

I would try hooking up the low range light also and see what happens.

On my 96 5.0L with the 4406 the high/ low wires from the t case go directly to the dash, the GEM has been removed from the loop

i didnt' have enough wire at the time to run both grounds.. Im going wheeling in the sand dunes this weekend so maybe i'll beat on it enough it'll go off. It is going into closed loop though. Open loop value=1.. Value=0.. So i just can't believe no body else has had this problem.. Blows my mind. When i get home i'll run both grounds.. I havn't taken the neg off the battery to try to do a hard reset of the computer.. no time. i'll try that tonite and see if it will keep the light off.
