5.0 Ranger manual to auto swap questions

I have a 98 Ranger 2wd with a 98 GT40 engine from an Explorer swapped in. It currently has a Tremec 3550 and I'm wanting to swap in a 4R70W. I have one in my Mustang behind a 5.0 and I love it. However, I need to make sure I'm getting the right one for my application. What are the differences in the 96+ 4R's? Particularly interested in the VSS locations as well as years to stay away from such as the 2000's (I think it was) that had a bad solenoid or something?

Tranny Swap

I put a 4R70W in my '98 Ranger from a '99 Explorer. The VSS is a direct swap, though I have not checked my speedo accuracy yet. So far so good.
