5.0 Sound question

Whats going on guys and gals i have a question. Does a 5.0 Liter Explorer sound just like a 5.0 Liter Mustang or atleast close. I was thinking maybe they sound a little different the length being the Explorer is longer. There aren't any 5.0 Liter Explorer's around here with exhaust. I just wanted to know.

Mine sounds alot like a Mustang.

sound exactly like the mustang, depending on alot of variables. if you had the same mufflers on the 5.0 stang as the 5.0 X, you would not be able to tell the difference audibly.

yeah mine doesnt sound like that at all. for some reason once i punch the gas down it sounds really raunchy it sounds horrible could that be my cats that are blown or wut because its horrible and i have a flowmaster 40 series. thanx man bye

is yours a V8? because its not going to sound like that if its a V6...

yeah its the 5.0 and it sounds really bad and i dont know if it could be the cats or wut it could be but its horrible but at idle and normal driving it sounds fine but once i punch it. it sounds horrible please help thanx much bye

unless they missed a weld and its leaking, i have no idea why it would sound anything but heavenly. i have a 40series on mine, and as well known the 5liter plus flowmaster(s) is one of the greatest V8 sounds on earth. any way you could get a sound clip? got a cheap webcam that can take sound samples?

it almost sounds like a hanger is loose or something like that or it could be a hole somewhere. james t, what lowering kit do you have on your x and where did you get it? i want to lower our mountaineer. By the way everyone, I'm new to the forum. My name is Marc, my wife and I own a 99 Merc Mountaineer with a 4.0 V6 with no mods yet and a 91 GT Mustang with a whole bunch of stuff done to it.

welcome marc. there are no true lowering kits at this time, all you do is blocks in the rear and loosen the torsion bar adjuster bolts in the front. about 2" is max.

check the exhaust shops around you, i don't know what the laws around you are but some guys will cut out yer cats and put pipe in place for a price. i cut the cats on my 99 f150 4.2l 6er with a si/do flowmaster and it sounded pretty damn good for a six. for a 5.0 no cats sound awsome. i have a mac h-pipe on my stang with dual flows with 3 inch dumps and it added some low end torque but i'm kinda suffering on top-end. i can still do 125 with 3.23 gears in the back and an aod tranny. james t, could you give some more info on loosening the torsion bars? i'm too familiar with torsion set ups. thanx
