I've got a 2000 AWD 5.0 V8 with 36,000 miles. Last night it ran fine but when I went to start it up this afternoon with my remote start it died. Figuring it was something with the remote I went to the key and the same thing.

If I can get it started it will sputter and back-fire unless I rev the gas. Once I've done that for a few minutes it will stay running until I start to drive - then it just dies.

I've recently changed the IAC and cleaned the MAF. I unplugged both of them when I was able to get it running and it almost died so I think both of those parts are working. Any ideas what this can be? I'm down to 1 car so I really need to get it running today! No check engine light. :(

I took another look at it and unplugged the MAF again. This time it didn't make much of a difference in the idle so I decided to clean it. I noticed that a spider had made a web in the MAF housing! After some electrical parts cleaner I'm happy to report that the X is running fine! Unbelievable - only I would have this kind of luck.

I guess I'll add bug spray to my next tune up

Wow that is great!

Thanks. Before I took out the MAF I saw the spider crawl out of the air filter housing. Now that I know he was the culprit I'll be on the lookout for him :D
