This might be stupid, but I figured I would ask anyway.

Can the bracket from a mustang supercharger work on an explorer. Pleae do not just say no, explain why it does not work.

Thanks, the only reason I ask is because there are tons of used mustang blowers around and maybe they would work with little modification.

I believe the accessory/serpentine system is pretty different.

Yeah, the Mustangs have a wider accessories bracket setup. So basically when you bolt the blower bracket on, the whole unit will be too far back to line up with the other pullies.

Basically the bracket is the only thing you can't use. Actually, people have used the bracket and shortened the pully shaft on the blower. Either way, it'll take some custom work.

So are you sayin the blower pulley will stick out too far from the others?

I was looking to use a vortech unit, so it is centrafugal, not roots.

Thanks, anyone have more input.

ya, they pulley for a mustang supercharger will stick out closer to the radiator, far enough you cant run get the blet on properlyyou could use the kit and have a custom bracket made, but you need to price it out first. It might negate the savings of buying a stang kit

Do you want to put a blower from a 5.0 Mustang on an Explorer V6 OHV or an Explorer 5.0?

no you can not just use a 5.0 mustang braket we tried every thing. we had to make a custom one to use a vortech. but it does fit nicely in there. also you can buy a power dyne but they dont make as much power.

The Explorer FEAD assembly is the "shortest Ford ever made for the 302. It aligns the pulleys / belt plane ~1/2" closer to the block than the 94-95 Mustang (second shortest). The others above listed your options.

I chose to use a Kenne Bell blower on my truck, as I wanted the off idle boost and could care less about redline boost. (Explorers shift at 4800rpm anyway, without custom chip).

Check out my photo pages by clicking "home page" below. Basically use a KB Mustang manifold set and compressor, had the drive extension custom shortened and made a custom front bracket. The nice thing about this setup is it uses the same Serpentine belt as other accessories, thus leaving the factory fan to rad clearance.

Also, here are some more recent pictures than those on the other link:

That is awesome lookin . How does it run with that one it.

So the Explorer is a half inch closer to the block then the mustang is. SO in theory the vortech mustang kit would work if the bracket was a half in closer to the block then it is. Is this correct? Is that the only difference with things with the belt?

Also are all the accessories in the same places?

You also say this is with the 94 - 95, what about the other years of 5.0, is it the same distance away?

Thanks so much

The 86-93 mustang and truck FEAD assemblies have the belt muc hfarther forward than te 94-95 mustang (~1 to 1.5" more).

All centrifugal kits I have seen use a secondary belt for the blower. In order to use this, you would need to not only modify the bracket, but have a custom damper/DIS exiter/crank pulley assembly made. The explorer assembly is all one piece. You could try to buy the custom crank pulley set from Powerdyne, but last time I asked it was ~$650! Also, you need to make an adaptor to move the fan closer to the radiator, so you can slip the second belt in. All in all, not an easy job - much easier to go the route I did.

i can make you just a custome crank pulley that fits in your stock damener for about 300 bucks 8 rib or 6 rib any size. my brother is 8 rib and about a 1 bigger then the powerdyne one comes with. hey tmsoko did you ask kennebell if they had any shorter snouts or did you just have to buy one and mod it no matter what. i know i have seen a bunch of diffrent ones from there various applications.

You think you could make me a vortech blower bracker like your brother has. How much would that be.

I ask because I would much rather run a vortech because of the better power. Could you tell me the details of doing this.

P.S.~I know your brother is selling his vortech for 3000 but I do not have that money now. Thanks.

Thanks for the good comments. It took some time, but has really turned out nice.

As for the snout, I had to custom cut one. There are only about 6-8 snouts available from Autorotor who makes the blower and drive. Kenne Bell just busys those parts, adds thir custom manifolds and front support bracket. Autorotor is a great company to deal with. KB is good one day bad the next.

Jed, what kind of power are you looking for? Is this strip truck or a daily driver? If a street driver, consider twin screw. Immediate boost is great and with a 2.2L, you can get massive HP out of a 302. I thought the torque off the line with the V8 was good. Now, with full boost at 1800 rpm, it is incredible.

i am shure i could but i would rather just sell his blower complete with every thing you need. when we pull the blower off we are going to have the brakets repowdercoated and send you belts with it. that is a pretty good deal. with the pulley setup it has now it will make boost right away. not to take away from a kennebell that makes peak boost sooner but the vortech also makes a lot of boost very soon and has awsome torque.

it looks like i mite make copies of my brother headers if any of you guys are interested. i will also in the futer make the big tube shorties.

As for those headers, I am very intersted. I am 50% complete with a set of my own, but would be interested in getting some already done if not too expensive. Shoot me an email if you would and let me know the price and if you have any better pictures than those on the old website.

THANKS!!

Can you tell me what was involved in the Vortech blower set up on your brothers truck in reference to the pullies and things like that?

Thanks

Isn't the Vortec blower on Troll mounted to a Mustang engine? Adapting the Vortec to an Explorer 5.0 configuration is much different than installing it on a Mustang engine.
