i was wondering exactly what will be involved installing the 5.5" lift from superlift on my explorer. will i have driveline problems? steering problems? will i be able to fit 33"s no problem? or will i have to trim? and what exactly does the 5.5" kit come with? any help will be greatly appreciated.

5.5 lift comes 2 different ways, first is standard lift, this includes coils, brackets, swaybar extentions, shocks, and rear soa kit. second is same as above, only you can add extended radius arms, and super runner steering for more money. I personally would goe with the skyjacker kit, it is same kit as for a ranger. Quite a few people have had serious issues with the superlift parts.
Should not have anyproblems from these lifts, and driveline should be okay. Tires will be okay, as long as you do not go with wheels that are wider than 8 inches, anything wider will mean trimming.

is there a 6 inch lift available for the 4x4 explorer from skyjacker? i saw one on 4wheelparts.com but then i checked out the skyjacker website and apperently that wasnt the case...it said it was only for the 2 wheel drive explorer... i know there is a 4 inch lift from them... any information on the available skyjacker kits would be a help.

You can order the skyjacker kit for a ranger, the suspension is the same, for the rear you can order the superlift soa axle kit seperately. I had the skyjacker kit on my ex, and can answer any questions you have. Also look under 6 inch done by Kodiak, he has same kit.

Does the Skyjacker kit not come with the lift for the rear? Skyjacker also has an 8" lift for a Ranger. Do you know if this would work, or could be modified to work on an X?

Skyjacker does not make a true explorer lift over 4 inches. The 6 and 8 inch kit for rangers will work up front, but you are on your own for the rear. Easy solution for either is to put your rear springs on top with either new perches, or using the superlift rear kit. The superlift rear kit can be bought seperately.

thanks for the info X-1. I am probably going to buy the Skyjacker 6" and then do a homeade axle flip.

Mike.

There is a thread here for the 32 dollar axle flip.

Does anyone know if the shocks are the same length for the Ranger as they are for the X?

I've got the Skyjacker 4" kit and I can tell you its solid. If you definately want to go with 6" it is actually almost the same kit as what I have. Just be careful with the SOA conversion... there are pitfalls like axle-wrap and such. Just search through this site and you'll see there is a solution for every pitfall though.

Just do your research well ;)

Good luck!

Ed

The only difference on shocks are the rear, they are not same lentgh, and mount differently
