im looking to buy a 91 explorer 4 door with a 5 speed and 280.xxxkms jsut wondering if the 5 speeds are reliable because i know the autos have lots of problems. please email me at skateboarding4life_@hotmail.com thanks

For the most part, yes the 5 speed is much more reliable than the A4LD auto (or any of the RBV autos frankly).
The only advantage the automatic has over the M5OD is the torque it can handle for pull rating as long as it is upgraded along with torque converter.
I would'nt personally use a high mileage M5OD.
My 91 has 190,000-miles about 300,000-km. I did have a sycronicer fail at 90,000-miles and had to replace 3rd gear. Otherwise it has performed well. the clutch gets replaced about every 90,000-miles.
