I know it will bolt right in but what am I going to run into with the wire harnesses? Do I need to modify any or is it a straight swap?

thanks

Forgot to mention that I have the ecu from the donor vehicle as well, could I in theory swap the end harnesses for the ones on the 97 instead of tracing back all of the wiring?
Not to toot my own horn but I am pretty good with a soldering iron!!!

LOL oh and thanks for the welcome....been here a while just never post on topics unless I cant find it in the search....don't like being a noob!!!

Which motor does the 97 have? Because if you're swapping the whole ecu then if the 97 has the SOHC then you're going to need to modify the harness to adapt to the OHV motor in your 96 truck.

Why you gotta be like that Glenn? LOL making this more work than it was supposed to be!!! I belive it was the same 4.0 thats in my 96....I will go back to check and be sure, but if thats the case then would anyone like to buy a 5r55e? just kidding!!

If it is a SOHC there is a guy that wired a SOHC into a 94 explorer and wired the OHV computer to it so its possible to do it opposite but that of course would be a PITA! lol

The good news.... the donor vehicle was an OHV.... the bad news.... the ECU was not from the same vehicle :-( My Buddy thought they were the same so he took the cpu from his truck and gave it to me with the tranny

So I will be getting a ECU from pick a part, which mean I will also be getting the harness as well...

So you don't have the parts truck right there to pull parts from?

Nope it was my friends dads truck he wrecked, so we went through and took all of the parts we wanted before it got sent off for scrap. My buddy took a few things for his lifted explorer, but not much since he had already done a full swap to a 351 with a pretty nice lift kit on his 97.
