which engine do i have in my 96 explorer?

i have a 96 explorer with a 4.0L and manual transmission. I was wondering is this the SOHC motor?

Look at your VIN. If the 8th spot is an X its an OHV engine, if it's an E, it's the SOHC.

The SOHC didn't become available until '97 model year. Before that, it was only OHV. The SOHC never was available with the manual tranny either. Ultimately, this is why I switched to the automatic tranny in '97. I wanted the newer engine, but couldn't get it with 5 speed manual.
