5R55E Maintenance

Got a 5R55E with 301,000mi since new, 160,000mi since rebuild. Transmission shifts flawlessly, no problems other than torque converter drain back if I park it in an upslope. I change the fluid every 30-50,000mi.

I’m looking to make this thing last as long as possible. Any recommendations for preventative maintenance other than fluid/filter changes? Any benefits to going in and giving the valve body and components (solenoids, check balls, gaskets, etc) and servos/accumulators an overhaul? Or should I just run it?

Maintenance is the best thing you can do to prolong longevity. Also, if it is working fine, no reason to try to fix it.

You could add an external filter, magnetic drain plug in the pan, synthetic fluid, and a heavy duty cooler.
