5r55e no drive but good reverse

hi there, have 98 v6 with 5r55e . engine stalls when drive is engaged but reverse operates ok. stall speed in reverse is approx. 2200 rpm. fluid is very dirty, but not burnt. trans is now out and in bits... no obvious damage... any body suffered these simptoms? regards nick

Welcome to this forum! It sounds like a valve body problem. How many miles are on it? It's possible that the EPC solenoid might not be regulating the correct amount of pressure. Were the valve body bolts loose when you pulled it out? How do the valve body gaskets look? Examine the inner, and outer seals of the clutch pack pistons.

greetings, done 190,000 km... valve body bolts and gaskets all good, have since sent valve body for test as is so if problem is vb related they should find it. will check pistons later. and keep you posted...cheers, nick

hi there, 6 weeks after we started the job !!!!!! all back together after a new converter and valve body. went through complete trans ... all friction components were in very good condition. fitted seal kit and some thrusts (not all avaliable in nz). flushed cooler due to alumin contamination from converter (od clutch). only reason we can give for no drive is stuck valves/solinoids in valve body... regards nick
