I am just looking for confirmation of what I think happened to my transmission. A few days when shifting revs climbed abnormally high, I let off, not sure how fast I was going. After that I have no overdrive. I don't have any transmission related codes being thrown. I assume that I now have a broken overdrive band. Does this sound like what has happened?

BTW this make me really glad that I paid $950 22k miles ago for a tranny rebuild

That's only half of what a Overhaul costs with all the the proper parts installed. I think you did pretty good for getting 22k out of it.

Really? So you are saying that it normally costs $2000 for a rebuild. I did the r&r.

Any way based on the symptoms does it sound like I have a broken overdrive band?

Sure does, What i get for complete job with a 2yr/unlimited miles warranty. Still on the lower end of the price range. if I do a bench job it runs $1500 with a 1yr/12000 mile warranty. Your issue could be band, servo piston, solenoid or VB problem. Even PCM With no codes kinda a crap shoot. Might try adjusting front band to see if will hold a setting.

Can you point me in the direction of some info that would help me figure this out?

I spoke with the guy who "rebuilt" it, judging by the sudden loss of second gear while accelerating he thought it was probably the overdrive band. Operating under this assumption, i know it might be incorrect, how many special tools and advanced knowledge would i need to change this band myself? I have experience with most all other mechanical work both professionally and privately but never any auto trannies. The truck isn't worth $2000 so a full rebuild is out of the question.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
