95 explorer/expedition
Hey i just joined this forum but I've been lurking for quite some time now. As the title says, I have no overdrive. I have a 95 explorer/expedition 4wd. The transmission has been rebuilt in the beginning of january so im very confused. When under normal driving conditions, everything shifts fine but it just doesnt go into the last gear, overdrive. SO at 55 mph, the tach is already at 3,000. What gives? :fire:

I read ALL of the stickies and I still cant diagnose the problem.. Please anyone?

edit: Fluid is fine, was recently flushed.

That transmission is all electronically controlled. I think I might start by pulling codes from the computer. Then check the wiring between the computer and the transmission.

Mr. Shorty's advice is good. One possible diagnosis is that the SSC solenoid is failed in the off position.... the Q is why.

Associated codes might be P0734, P0760 or proprietary code P1716

My check engine light isnt on though. Doesnt it need to be for there to be codes present?

No, especially with EEC-IV/OBD-1 systems. Since most '95's are EEC-IV/OB-1, I would expect 3 digit EEC-IV codes rather than the OBD-2 codes Glacier posted. Also note that, if you have an OBD-2 diagnostic port under the steering wheel, it is usually inactive. The self-test connectors for a '95 EEC-IV Explorer are under the hood on the driver's side fender. You can pull code with nothing more than a paper clip (see my notes on pulling EEC-IV codes in the EEC-IV forum).
