Ok I'm hoping I can get some input about my current situation with my transmission. Right now it is in the parking lot of where I'm at work, and it looks like I'll need to get a ride home.
Symptoms:
When in D, while accelerating slowly or downhill from a stop, it will be fine. It will shift normally until it reaches 30MPH, then it will quickly act like it is in N. When I accelerate normally, with some speed it will not shift out of 1st gear at all, and I have to rev it up to 3000 rpms, or get it above 30MPH, let off the gas and let the revs drop to about 1500 and then I can feel it engage, and I'm fine. I don't hear any sounds whatsoever and dont feel anything out of the ordinary.
Once I've gotten up to speed, it will not shift into 5th gear at all, I've tried letting the revs drop like from 1st, but still nothing. And when I got onto the freeway to go to work and it wouldn't shift into 5th, that's when the CEL came on, not before. And I wasn't getting an O/D off light or anything before that.
And I don't have reverse at all, no sounds, no movement, it acts like it is in N. Once again, I don't feel or hear anything.
Cause (?):
Before my tranny had been working fine, no problems at all.
Today I was driving through a mud puddle about 50 feet long and not too deep. My two other friends drove through it without hitting anything, so I went through, and went around in a cirlce and went through it 3 times. I didn't hit anything, didn't feel or hear anything.
After I went through the 3rd time I pulled to the side and stopped, while still in D. I then pushed the gas and reved like I was in N. I put it into 2 and then back into D and then it got stuck in 1st like the problem above.
So hears the question, could me going through a mud puddle possibly cause my transmission to take a dump on me? I don't think I hit anything, and the breif look I took underneath didnt show anything out of the ordinary. I'm not leaking any fluid at all. OR could my tranny just have been on its last leg and that abuse just sent it over the edge.
I've done some searching and have found posts about a gasket breaking or fluid in a vacum line. I'm going to take it to a shop tomorrow to get the code read and then hopefully I won't have to get $2000 for a new tranny, cause there's no way I can afford that.
