Hello all.... A little background in the thread below
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=401567
The truck is a 98 XLT 4.0 SOHC with about 120000 miles.
As stated it is believed that my reverse band is broke. Today I traveled a fair distance to PU a used 5R55E 4.0 (VIN E) transmission with 146K in it. With tax I paid $400. At this point it doesn't matter if it was too much. The yard seemed reputable and the people were nice.
As I start to research doing this my first and foremost questions are what should be done to prep or ready the used transmission? My first thoughts are to put in a drain valve. I will likely replace the valve body with the reman one I already bought from Central Valve Bodies unless someone gives me a compelling reason not to.
Is the 5R55S swap sticky helpful for the "E" version? Any other good resources some have compiled?
Also helpful would be common replaceable such as gaskets and seals. Looking at advanced auto it is not intuitive.
Time is tricky with my kids little league so I'm hoping I can find a good few days I can devote to this project.
Any help, tips, tricks and advise is always welcome.
Thanks
Scott
