I went back today to get the power leather seats out of the Explorer I took the console from. For some reason I started with the passenger seat. (Note to self and others - always (next time) start with the most desirable, hardest to find part. That would be the good driver's seat in this case.) After a lot of work, I got the rear bolts out. They did not want to turn! Fronts on both sides were no problem. Got the inside rear bolt out of the driver's side with reasonable effort. Put the wrench on the outside rear bolt, and immediately rounded the head! No slipping, no warning, just immediately rounded it. In the channel like it is, there's no way to get hold of it. I rocked and twisted the seat for a while hoping the floor was rusty enough it would eventually let go, but no such luck. I eventually gave up, but I did take the passenger's seat. I put too much time and effort into getting it out to let somebody else just walk off with it!
On the way out, I pulled the passenger's seat out of the '01 Ex Sport just to have a spare since they don't show up often. I also got the radio bezel - right color with 3 switch openings on the right side, and decided to go ahead and take the AM-FM tape/CD factory radio just to have a spare. The plugs didn't want to come out of the switches or radio so I started clipping wires, which I normally try to avoid. That's when I 1st noticed the theft light was blinking, meaning the battery is still in it and hooked up! I even considered taking the instrument cluster and didn't notice the light blinking either day I looked at it. I'm sure (pretty sure) they just haven't processed it yet. I mean they should have locked it and put a sign on it if they didn't intend for it to get parted out. Right? Anyway, I decided it was time to scoot, just in case!
