Hello,

I have a 1999 Explorer with a 5R55E. After a few minutes of driving the transmission o/d light flashes and it will not engage overdrive. This is the 3rd transmission in the truck. The original went 100000, the second went 9000( failed torrington bearing), now the 3rd is having issues. The last 2 units were from Roadmaster out of Chicago( they built the current one in the truck), through my reasearch was a good rebuilder. My wife drives the truck most of the time, we don't haul trailers with it, just point A to B. Suggestions on what is going on?

sounds as though its throwing a code....can u get the codes read, or see if its throwing any codes? when the 3rd one was rebuilt did you happen to have/purchase an extended warranty?
best of luck

Codes

Your right, it is setting a code. When I bought the transmission, it had a 2 year warranty. The unit that the torrington bearing failed on, was covered under warranty. I wounder if the possition sensor could be bad. The transmission is still under warranty, I just hate swaping them out!

alright, do you have the code(s)? i really dont know to much about automatic transmissions, just been on here long enough that if you really explain in great detail your problem along with codes you have a great chance at pinpointing your probs. that being said i wish you the best man :)
