This may be a dumb question... But I have ask.

My son has a 02 Explorer with the 5R55S transmission. It started leaking bad out of nowhere, which I thought was a bad gasket on the pan.

Replaced the gasket and then found that the leak was coming from the OD Servo right above the pan seal.

I'm working from the ground unless I tow it to my dad's lift but I can see that the split ring is poking out some at one of the ends.

I have found a ton of info on replacing the servo but... Can I just make sure the split ring is seated correctly and then JB Weld that ****er to stop the leak?

Or does the servo need some movement? Or, better yet, should fluid be coming out of that split ring seal? Is this issue internal with the O ring?

I found a company that sells replacements especially for this chronic fail point... So it must be common enough for someone to have tried what I'm asking.

In all honesty I'm not trying to get more than 20k more miles out of this truck for him so I'm weighing the time/sweat/anger/money of replacing the servo VS sealing it shut to stop the leak.

I would bet the o-ring is worn and i would change both of them (OD and intermediate).

Push the servo cover in a little (maybe with a big clamp), snap ring out, release clamp pressure
and the cover should came out (inspect cover for crack).
Clean the groove for the snap ring, oil the new cover o-ring, seat the snap ring, pushing it in his groove
to fit properly.
