5th shock?

does anyone have info on the 5th shock that is supposed to help with the vibration will it fit on all new exs

The third shock on the rear axle came on all stock Explorers between 95-01. I don't think the 2002 has a need for it. It's not a question of will it fit...it is already there.

Can somebody take a picture of this 3rd shock ... I have a 96 sport and I don't remember seeing a 3rd shock last time I was under the rear end (3 months ago).

I'm not 100% sure that the Sports have this 3rd rear shock. If it's there, you won't miss it. Just look at the top of your rear differential housing. The little shock is bolted there and then to the passenger's side frame rail. If it's there, you won't miss it.

Steven is correct, the Sports do not come with the 5th shock.

Steve, are you experiencing any vibration or swaying that would make you want to install one?? Several of the guys here on the site have taken the little shocks off of their 4-doors and had realized no ill effects afterwards. What makes you want one?

But if you were to install one, I'm sure it can be done. Now, I don't have a Sport so take this as you may... but if Ford put the same exact rear axle on the Sports as they put on the 4-doors, then your axle should have the same mounting point for the little shock on the top passenger side of the differential housing that mine does. Now I'm pretty sure that the Sport frames and the 4-door frames are different, so Ford may not have put the shock mount on the frame of the Sports like they did on the 4-doors. But that could be easily fixed if you made or bought a universal shock mount from a 4x4 shop and bolted or welded it onto your frame. Then you could mount you a little shock just like the 4 doors have.

Wouldn't a steering stablizer do the same thing?? It's just mounted on the front axle right?

I'm pretty sure a steering stabalizer is connected to your steering linkage, not the front axle. It helps to keep the wheel from jerking sharply and breaking your fingers while off roading and one of the front wheels wants to fall into a rut or something. But no, I wouldn't think a steering stabalizer would perform the same function on the front axle as the 3rd little shock does on the rear axle.
