+5V Fixed-Voltage Regulator wiring help

5v voltage regulator for stock amp
I am wanting to make my own voltage regulator because I just discovered that THERES A SUBWOOFER AND AMP !! in the back of my eddie bauer.
I have the Jensen VM9224bt that I just installed and I can only assume that its gonna POP.. i dont know yet beacuse i have the "3rd" wire harnes on order. now assuming I have to make a voltage regulator Im gonna get the
7805
a 330 ohm capacitor and a .1k ohm capacitor
I dont really want to have to use a circuit board.
I know the scematic to do it can i just tie all the grounds together, hots to hots and solder or is there kind of an "inline" principle. like hot to capacitor then 7805 then to capactor.
